Black Belt Success
14 year old Jack Robson has become the latest member of the club to achieve black belt level. Jack, who has been training in karate for about 5 years, pitted his skills against youngsters from all over the country at a national grading examination held in Chesterfield on 3rd February. He was assessed by two of the Worlds most senior practitioners of the art of shotokan karate, Sensei Andy Sherry 8th dan and Sensei Frank Brennan 7th dan, so accordingly the standard he had to achieve was very high. Fortunately in the months prior to the grading Jack had prepared very thoroughly and maintained a determined focus which he was able to draw upon under the pressure of the assessment. Supported by his delighted parents Jim and Jane from Keyworth, Jack said after the grading: “I can’t believe I’ve passed. I’m so pleased to have finally got my black belt.”
Pictured below is Jack receiving his award from Sensei Andy Sherry (seated) and Sensei Frank Brennan.
Adults, young people and children (min 8 yrs) wishing to learn karate may contact the club secretary on 07811 819221.
