Caroline’s Black Belt Success!

Caroline Rees has become the second member of the club to achieve black belt level in as many months! Caroline graded at the Spring Karate Course in Torbay on 4th April under Sensei Andy Sherry 8th dan, the Chief Instructor of the Karate Union of Great Britain, and former World Champion, Sensei Frank Brennan 7th dan. The grading followed a week of concentrated training and expert tuition from six of the most senior karate instructors in the country. Training took place every morning with the first session kicking off at 8.00am followed by a second session at midday. The intensity of this training regime, combined with Caroline’s determined attitude, resulted in a fabulous performance. She looked very sharp throughout the grading, but really excelled herself in the sparring. Despite having a pre-existing ankle injury which prevents her kicking with her right leg, Caroline took the fight to her male opponent with a cunning yet subtle strategy: relentless attack! The tactic worked perfectly. Her opponent was kept busy dealing with kicks and punches from all angles which clearly impressed the grading examiners.

Caroline’s achievement is quite remarkable considering that she became a mum for the first time only a few short months ago!

Also training on the course were Bob Dainty, Arthur Hall and Rosemary Hall, together with club instructor Rob Manning.

Adults, young people and children (min age 8yrs) wishing to learn karate may contact the club instructor on 07811 819221.
