Training Log: Sun 22.04.08

The session began with stationary practise of elbows, punches, and knife hand strikes using full body rotation for each. We began with individual shots, then in sets of three, then six. The basic blocking combinations were drilled before appying the moves in partner work. Kihon ippon kumite was used as the vehicle for applying single counter attacks to three individual attacks. The counters were initially with the fist, then the elbow, then the knife hand. The exercise developed to introduce multiple counters: three punches, then three elbows, and finally two knife hand strikes.

During kata practice the class was divided according to grade. Alan Lea took the brown belts through Bassai Dai; Steve Hull took the yellow belts through Heian Sandan; Rachel Tyler took the lower grade group through Kihon and Heian Shodan. The session concluded with the performance of these katas in the three groups. This was followed by Alan, Steve and Rachel demonstrating the kata enpi with some gusto in front of the rest of the class!

14 members trained in the session: James Gordon, Jonathan Cobb; Luke Cobb; Harry Brown; George Coates; Jonathan Osborne; Paul Osborne; Steve Cassapi; Ryan Skilton; Gregory Mills; Anthony Mills; Rachel Tyler; Steve Hull; Alan Lea.
