Some time ago we incorporated a specific kata study period into the itinerary of the Sunday morning sessions and I’m pleased to say it has worked very well indeed!
At or around 11.00am, in other words after an hour of general training, the class separates into smaller training groups according to grade. The black belts in the class then take responsibility for a training group and go through the detail of an appropriate kata, usually the grading kata. In this way the lower grades receive concentrated practise in the kata they are learning for their next grading; moreover the black belts develop a more sophisticated understanding of the kata they are teaching and develop confident coaching skills.
If you haven’t trained on a Sunday morning for a while, or you’ve never trained on a Sunday morning, why not join us in the dojo?
