The 42nd KUGB National Championship was held at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on 18th May. It proved to be a great success this year with almost 1000 competitors from across the nation competing for the prestigious title of KUGB National Champion. Representing the club were Kerry Lee, Steve Hull, and Audrius Mikalauskas who together comprised the adult kata team; the junior kata team was made up of Jack Robson, Alex Heather and Becky Cassapi. All six competitors gave of their best and some proceeded through several elimination rounds, however none of them were able to reach the finals this year. For the juniors it was their first experience of karate competition and they found it inspirational. One proud parent commented after her son’s debut: “He was really fired up by today’s event and he’s looking forward to entering more competitions!”
