We practised a simple solo routine using the front hand and the back hand to punch; and the front leg and the back leg to kick. The routine was then worked with a partner. These techniques, together with the back kick which we also practised, were the cornerstone of a jiyu kumite exercise.
Three attacks were delivered by the attacker twice; so six in all. Each attack was prescribed, as was each defence which alternated between a counter punch and a counter kick. The exercise was then developed further by adding feinting and movement. The attacker attacked only three times, but on a random basis, which required the defender to react quickly and defend appropriately.
The session concluded with kata practise: Heian Godan.
4 (!) members trained in the session: Bob Dainty; Steve Hull; Arthur Hall; Rosemary Hall.
