Training Log: Weds 11.08.06

Deja vu!

Good turnout, again; no dojo, again; noone from Holme Pierrepont informed us, again; we trained on the grass, again!

Following a thorough warm up routine involving the basic blocking and punching sequences used in the kyu grading syllabus, we got to work on kicks. The mirror effect created by the row of windows was again useful in correcting form. With this in mind the black belts then tackled the ‘monster’: Kanku Dai. Every move was worked on in detail and various aspects were clarified. The brown and purple belts studied Heian Yondan and Heian Godan, similarly working on perfecting the fine detail.

Four rounds of light kumite followed. Emphasis was placed on avoiding catastrophes (see “Instinctive Catastrophe” article!) and respecting the danger zone between the two fighters. Significant progress has been made on both fronts in recent weeks.

To finish the session we returned to kata: brown belts performed the two Heian katas consecutively; black belts pacified the ‘monster’!

14 members trained in the session (plus one guest): Bob Dainty; Becky Cassapi; Steve Cassapi; Harry Heather; Alex Heather; Darren Cockburn; Steve Hull; Kerry Lee; Charlotte Bonardi; Caroline Todd; Teddie Henderson; Phil Raikes; Arthur Hall; Rosemary Hall.
