Justifiable Force: The Practical Guide to the Law of Self Defence

We are all at risk of being confronted by thugs, vandals attacking property, burglars, or yobbish behaviour. In these situations where there’s little time to think, we have to make instant decisions.

But what does the law expect of us, and importantly, what can we expect of the law, if we have to use our karate skills on the street?

Drawing on my knowledge and experience gleaned as a criminal barrister, I wrote a book in plain English to demystify the law of self defence and to explain clearly the system of criminal law into which any law-abiding citizen could be innocently thrust. It was published by Barry Rose Law Publishers in 2005.

Justifiable Force: The Practical Guide to the Law of Self Defence is still available and is a resource of practical information, which forewarns and forearms. The book comes with an addendum covering changes to the law which have come into force since it was first published.

“If you’re training in karate it’s wise to understand the law of self defence; if you’re teaching karate to others it’s your duty!”
