Following a warm up of basics consisting primarily leg work to tax the major muscles, we focussed on two specific kicks: Maewashi geri delivered with the front leg; and ushiro geri. We drilled these two kicks with a compliant partner to improve skill levels before using them in a jiue ippon kumite exercise.
The attacker kicked four times: twice with the maewashi; twice with the ushiro geri. The defender used evasive footwork in a zig zag fashion to avoid the maewashis, and a weaving action to avoid the back kicks. The defender counter punched on the first and third attacks and counter kicked on the second and fourth attacks. We increased the tempo with every partner change so that the final set was at ‘full bore”.
No quarter was given or asked!
