A technical session; also a demanding session.
We began by working on a partner drill using gyacku tsuki. One side worked on the smoothness of the delivery of the punch, alternating right and left. This simple exercise was then developed to include action from both partners. During the transition phase between each punch, the target side fired a technique: first gyacku tsuki, then yoko geri kiage.
We then considered the commonly occurring kick/block combination found in several katas: yoko geri kiage/uraken uke. Again we drilled this with a partner. The move was more comfortable for most people on the right side of the body. This was not only because the right side tends to be dominant for most, but also because the examples of this manoeuvre found in the kata use the right side: Heian Nidan for example.
We concluded the class with kata practise.
8 members trained in the session: George Coates; Jonathan Osbotne; Paul Osborne; Becky Cassapi; Anthony Mills; Gregory Mills; Tom Ludlow; Alan Lea.
