Training Log: Weds 01.10.08

We really got into the zone this evening – the anaerobic zone to be precise!

We started with a warm up which included shuttle runs. Long shuttle runs. Shuttle runs which involved changing direction and doubling back on yourself five times for one rep! We did five reps!!!!!

We then worked the major muscles of the legs with a kicking routine before ’settling down’ into a punching workout. This is where things hotted up! Working with a partner we fired combination shots to the body in a prescribed routine: singles; doubles and trebles – starting with the left, then the right. One set involved 12 punches if my maths serve me correctly! Then the routine was repeated from the opposite stance; we began with three sets in each stance.

We worked explosively in the anaerobic zone. And then we upped the number of sets by having no upper limit – the puncher just kept punching, explosively, to failure! The puncher was assisted in this endeavour by the compliant partner who actively encouraged the puncher to resist any temptation to give in.

As I left the dojo a visiting karate-ka who had been watching the session from the sidelines with a view to joining the club, summed the evening’s proceedings up very succinctly:

“That was intense!”, he observed!

No greater compliment could have been paid.

11 members trained in the session: Paul Osborne; Becky Cassapi; Steve Cassapi; Ryan Skilton; Oliver Wood; Darren Cockburn; Tom Ludlow; Audrius Mickalauskas; Kerry Lee; Steve Stubbs; Caroline Todd.
